Was so in mir steckt ist ein humorvoller Roman über den Jugendlichen Rob und wie dieser zu sich selbst findet. Rob ist verliebt, versucht, seine Schüchternheit zu überwinden, und arbeitet an seinem Selbstbewusstsein. Dabei helfen sein Großvater, sein bester Freund und anonyme SMS, die ihn vor Herausforderungen stellen.
Dass Rob trans ist, wird erst spät im Buch explizit zum Thema gemacht, was dazu beiträgt, dies als normal und nicht als etwas besonderes darzustellen. Es ist schön, mal einen Jugendroman vorliegen zu haben, in dem Trans*-Identität nicht das Hauptthema ist und diese dennoch klar und empowernd thematisiert wird.
