Verlagsbeschreibung:

Providing an accessible and authoritative introduction to issues around People of Colour (POC) trans inclusion, this book uses case studies, tips, checklists and anonymous survey results to set out best practice for any professionals working with trans people to create safer spaces, support and awareness.

Trans people of colour are often excluded because gender and race are treated as separate issues. They are therefore left out from movements and services and in trans and non-binary spaces, their POC identities are overlooked. Choudrey's guide introduces the theory of intersectionality from the start, giving practical tips and steps to ensure that the community as a whole may be represented and creates a safer space for trans people of colour to thrive.

An empowering and self-preserving tool, Supporting Trans People of Colour is an invaluable resource for therapists, counsellors, healthcare professionals, and those working in education and charities, as well as those wanting to make their approach and service more inclusive.

Meg-John Barker über das Buch:

A much needed resource for all individuals, groups and organisations looking to become more inclusive of trans people of colour. After a helpful primer on key concepts and language, Sabah Choudrey succinctly summarises the impact of intersecting axes of oppression, and sets out clearly what we need to do - from self reflection to systemic change - in order to cultivate safer spaces and practices. A deeply helpful and engaging read from start to finish.

Sabah's writing style is accessible, informative and engaging, which is the perfect combination for a book with this mission. The author is a trans non-binary autist itself and the whole book is written based on expertise from self-experience, interviews with other autistic people and research. Very well structured, the books looks into the pitfalls of social expectations of marginalised people on the spectrum and addresses specifically their experiences, showing how the trope of "Rain-man" as a stereotypical autist hurts all, but mainly makes many autistic experiences invisible. Therefore this book highlights and also explains the every day discrimination and struggle they face. The book addresses directly and with lots of first voices the experiences of trans, genderqueer, BIPoC, and multiple disabled autists. It is not only a great resource for autists, but also for allistics, who want to understand and learn more about diverse autistic experiences. (Rezi von flo)

Verlagsbeschreibung

Have you, a friend or family member been living with undiagnosed autism?

For every visibly Autistic person you meet, there are countless ‘masked’ people who pass as neurotypical. They don’t fit the stereotypical mould of Autism and are often forced by necessity to mask who they are, spending their entire lives trying to hide their Autistic traits. In particular, there is evidence that Autism remains significantly undiagnosed in women, people of colour, trans and gender non-conforming people, many of whom are only now starting to recognise those traits later in life.

Blending cutting-edge research, personal insights and practical exercises for self-expression, Dr Devon Price examines the phenomenon of ‘masking’, making a passionate argument for radical authenticity and non-conformity. A powerful call for change, Unmasking Autism gifts its readers with the tools to uncover their true selves and build a new society – one where everyone can thrive on their own terms.

Now what?

Most masked Autistics have spent a lifetime being told how to perform neurotypically: how to behave, how to carry themselves, what to feel, and how to live. With his previous book, Unmasking Autism, Dr. Devon Price has given them the space and confidence to unmask and embrace their neurodiversity. But no matter where you are in the unmasking process, there is still work to be done. Because Autistic people often fear change, struggle to process unfamiliar situations, and have trauma histories that have conditioned them to avoid conflict, they don’t always know how to transform their inner revelations into outer realities. They need more than internal healing – they need practical tools to translate acceptance into assertiveness and interpersonal effectiveness.

In this book, Devon Price helps you advocate for your needs and invent new ways of living, loving and being that work for you, using five key skills:

· Acceptance of change, loss, and uncertainty
· Engagement in productive conflict, discussion, and disagreement
· Transgression of unfair rules, demands, and social expectations
· Tolerance of distress, disagreement, or being disliked
· Creation of new accommodations, relationship structures, and new ways of living

With powerful insights and transformative resources, Unmasking for Life is a practical guide to living a fully realised Autistic life.

As an activist, psychotherapist, conflict mediator, and spiritual healer, she’s always pursued the same deeply personal mission: to embrace the revolutionary belief that every human being, no matter how hateful or horrible, is intrinsically sacred.

But then Kai Cheng found herself in a crisis of faith, overwhelmed by the viciousness with which people treated one another, and barely clinging to the values and ideals she’d built her life around: justice, hope, love, and healing. Rather than succumb to despair and cynicism, she gathered all her rage and grief and took one last leap of faith: she wrote. Whether prayers or spells or poems—and whether there’s a difference—she wrote to affirm the outcasts and runaways she calls her kin. She wrote to flawed but nonetheless lovable men, to people with good intentions who harm their own, to racists and transphobes seemingly beyond saving. What emerged was a blueprint for falling back in love with being human.

Weitere Bücher von Kai Cheng Thom findet ihr hier.

Struggling to pay the bills; buying a top made in a sweatshop; reading the news and feeling – yet again – a powerlessness to the point of apathy?

In this bold and transformative manifesto, social psychologist and author of Unmasking Autism Dr Devon Price takes an in-depth look at shame and the role it plays in our lives. Price identifies something called ‘Systemic Shame’: the powerful self-message that says I am to blame for my circumstances. He explores how it traps us into fighting unwinnable battles and judging others for their failures, and how it especially affects those who are already vulnerable because they’re carrying shame from a difficult past or a complicated sense of self-esteem. By unpacking the concept of ‘Systemic Shame’, this radically positive book shows that there is no such thing as becoming ‘good enough’ to be deserving of love; we must claim acceptance for ourselves.

Blending the latest social psychology, personal insights and empowering practical exercises, Unlearning Shame is a transformative guide to overcoming self-blame, unlocking self-worth and taking control of your future.

As a young, queer, plus-size person, Essie Dennis has spent a lot of time feeling like they weren't enough - not queer enough, not feminine enough, not perfect enough. When they took to social media to share how they felt, they were overwhelmed by how many others felt the same.

I look too masculine to be non-binary
I look too feminine to be a lesbian
Am I too fat for drag?

Inviting you to challenge accepted beauty standards and the concept of 'the perfect body', Essie takes everything they have learned on their journey to self-acceptance and body satisfaction to help guide you towards loving your queer body. From gender, sexuality and reclaiming your body, through to food, politics, social media and fatphobia, this radical book starts a conversation about body image and mental health that queer people are so often left out of.

Fiercely and unapologetically written, and with honest advice and powerful stories from a diverse range of queer people throughout, this is an inspiring and necessary book that will show you that you are enough.

An Anti Self-Help Guide to Love, Sex and Relationships

We live in a time of uncertainty about relationships. We search for The One but find ourselves staying single because nobody measures up. We long for a happily-ever-after but break-up after break-up leave us bruised and confused.

Rewriting the Rules: An Anti Self-Help Guide to Love, Sex and Relationships is a friendly guide through the complicated - and often contradictory - advice that's given about sex and gender, monogamy and conflict, break-up and commitment. It asks questions about the rules of love, such as which to choose from all the rules on offer? Do we stick to the old rules we learnt growing up, or do we try something new and risk being out on our own? And what about the times when the rules we love by seem to make things worse, rather than better?

This new edition, updated throughout, considers how the rules are being 'rewritten' in various ways - for example in monogamish and polyamorous relationships, different ways of understanding sex and gender, and new ideas for managing commitment and break-up where economics, communities, or child-care make complete separation impossible. This book considers how the rules are being ‘rewritten’ in various ways, giving you the power to find an approach that best fits your situation.

Verlagsbeschreibung:

The transgender and gender nonbinary community is forever under siege. Institutional transphobia is enacted by those who would return us to the shadows, the closets, or worse.

Surviving Transphobia is an anthology by transgender and gender nonbinary celebrities and experts on endurance during times of severe hostility. We share the moments when we were vulnerable, were bullied, had needs dismissed, or were discriminated against, revealing our determination and how we have (sometimes) managed to thrive. We offer loving support as you brave agony and seek joy. We also speak to our allies.

We are activists, actors, athletes, authors, lawyers, doctors, nurses, therapists, sex workers, clergy, diplomats, and military veterans. We are of many ethnicities. We vary socioeconomically, educationally, and geographically. Some are neurodivergent. Several are disabled or have chronic illnesses. A few are HIV+. A small number were born elsewhere.

We have survived, here's how. And if we can survive... so can you.

Anxiety. It's out there and it's messing things up for us all. But for some of us, it's really messing things up.

As a trans woman, Freiya Benson is super anxious a lot of the time - from feeling unsafe in social situations, to worrying about how she looks and sounds - but over the years she has developed a toolkit for managing anxiety as a trans and/or non-binary person. Exploring specific triggers such as coming out, gender dysphoria, voice anxiety, transphobia, validity, passing and gender expectations, this guide will help you to identify and understand your triggers and anxiety, and build the resilience you need to handle life's challenges.

With advice and personal stories from a range of trans people, this book highlights the importance of self-care and being proud of who you are and highlights how trans people can flourish both individually and as a community when their anxiety is no longer in charge.

Skills for Navigating Sexual Orientation and Gender Expression.

How can you build unshakable confidence and resilience in a world still filled with ignorance, inequality, and discrimination? The Queer and Transgender Resilience Workbook will teach you how to challenge internalized negative messages, handle stress, build a community of support, and embrace your true self.

Resilience is a key ingredient for psychological health and wellness. It’s what gives people the psychological strength to cope with everyday stress, as well as major setbacks. For many people, stressful events may include job loss, financial problems, illness, natural disasters, medical emergencies, divorce, or the death of a loved one. But if you are queer or gender non-conforming, life stresses may also include discrimination in housing and health care, employment barriers, homelessness, family rejection, physical attacks or threats, and general unfair treatment and oppression—all of which lead to overwhelming feelings of hopelessness and powerlessness. So, how can you gain resilience in a society that is so often toxic and unwelcoming?

In this important workbook, you’ll discover how to cultivate the key components of resilience: holding a positive view of yourself and your abilities; knowing your worth and cultivating a strong sense of self-esteem; effectively utilizing resources; being assertive and creating a support community; fostering hope and growth within yourself, and finding the strength to help others. Once you know how to tap into your personal resilience, you’ll have an unlimited well you can draw from to navigate everyday challenges.

By learning to challenge internalized negative messages and remove obstacles from your life, you can build the resilience you need to embrace your truest self in an imperfect world.
