This includes loss through deaths but mostly loss of safety and a sense of belonging, loss of opportunity and/or of community whether due to coming out as queer, the ending of a relationship or otherwise. The interviewees identified as gay, queer, nonbinary, trans, bi and lesbian. While – as the author acknowledges – there is no right or wrong way to grieve or process loss, the book provides many valuable and helpful insights

Verlagsbeschreibung:

'For anyone who has experienced or is dealing with loss, I hope you find this book inspiring.'

This collection of queer experiences of loss, hope and resilience explores different aspects of loss, the challenges of these situations, but also how queerness might help people to navigate change and loss and the opportunities and hope that can arise when healing begins.

Exploring experiences of loss in all its forms - from bereavement and relationship breakups to loss of community, safety and identity - the book considers how queerness might help people to navigate change and loss and asks the question: do you believe in life after loss?

Curated by Andrew Flewitt and with contributions from psychotherapist Silva Neves throughout, the book features interviews with:
Nathaniel J.

Making a baby through love and science? Get the guidance you need to navigate the conception process with confidence and ease.

The only evidence-based, up-to-date fertility guide for queer people from an experienced health care provider, this is also the first to be transgender inclusive and body-positive.

Here, queer prospective parents will find sound advice for navigating complex medical, social and financial decisions. Trusted fertility midwife Kristin Kali walks you through the baby-making process: creating a timeline; fertile health for every body; preconception tests; identifying ovulation; donors, gamete banks, and surrogacy; methods of insemination including IUI, IVF and reciprocal IVF; navigating early pregnancy; and preparing for infant feeding, including lactation induction for trans women and nongestational parents.

This book is for all LGBTQ+ readers interested in creating family through pregnancy: anyone who identifies as queer, lesbians, gay men, bisexual people, trans and nonbinary people, couples, single parents by choice, poly families, and coparents. It’s an antidote to a culture and medical system that all too often centers heterosexual couples experiencing infertility while overlooking our unique needs. It also contains sidebars with guidance for reproductive healthcare professionals.

A lactation guide for people of all genders that includes information and excerpts from interviews with people who have nursed children as wells as birth and lactation professionals. This book answers many questions trans* and nonbinary parents and caretakes might have about nursing and for example the intake of hormones or gender-affirming surgeries. But it also gives answers to questions generelly such as how diet or medication might impact lactation and nursing.

And, of course, there are above all tips around nursing itself, such as preparation, nursing positions, nursing aids, weaning and self-care for nursing and non-nursing parents and caregivers. For those who prefer to read a shorter book, these latter tips can also be found in Queer Nursing and its German translation, Stillen für alle.

Can I lactate if I've had top surgery?
When can I restart taking testosterone?
Where do I start with donor milk?
Finally, a book about lactation not geared exclusively towards cisgender women! Lactation for the Rest of Us is an early addition to the literature for queer and trans people who have seen themselves left out of previous informative books on chestfeeding and lactation. Useful information is included for transmasculine parents, transfeminine parents, non-binary parents, queer parents, helpers, adoptive parents, and even cisgender male parents. Covering the induction of lactation, difficulties one may encounter with chestfeeding, expert advice, and first-person testimonials, this is the book the queer parenting community has been waiting for.

English version: The book, which many will probably know from the Netflix series “Heartstopper”, is a wonderful collection of interviews from trans* and non-binary children, teens and their families and carers from the UK. Juno Rocher interviewed them during the “Mermaids” and “Gendered Intelligence” program. Rocher shows how diverse experiences of trans* and non-binary children and teens are and how they try to live a self-determined life. The book offers a glimpse of hope due to the unconditional support the families and carers give the children and teens and how they take their identities seriously. This is for everyone who needs a little optimism and a book that shows how important it is to protect trans* youth. (Rezi von Jamie)

First-hand accounts of how parents support their transgender children

There is a new generation of parents and families who are identifying, supporting, and raising transgender children. In Trans-Affirmative Parenting, Elizabeth Rahilly presents their fascinating stories, interviewing parents of children who identify across the gender spectrum, as well as the doctors, mental health practitioners, educators, and advocates who support their journeys.

Rahilly provides a window into parents' experiences, exploring how they come to terms with new ideas about gender, sexuality, identity, and the body, as well as examining their complex deliberations about nonbinary possibilities and medical interventions. Ultimately, Rahilly compassionately shows how parents can best advocate for transgender awareness and move beyond traditional gendered expectations. She also shows that child-centered, child-driven parenting is as central to this new trans-affirmative paradigm as growing LGBTQ awareness. In an era that is increasingly trans-aware, Trans-Affirmative Parenting offers provocative new insights into transgender children and the parents who raise them.
