We don't owe you visibility

So many things have been said about visibility politics.
So many people have been hurt, injured and even died, because they have been visible to the wrong people.

Being visible is something, that not everybody can afford.
And some pay a high price - their safety and well-being - for a visibility they did not even choose.

You can only be visible, when you are not seen as a part of something, when you/ we‘re „othered“.
And being visible doesn’t mean, „you are seen“, or that you/we are represented (well).
It often means nothing else, than you are are seen for only „that one thing“.
For being trans.
(For whatever that means, cause last time I checked, being trans is nothing, you can see. Most times it just means:
„You’re not representing any „acceptable version of man or women“, one that doesn’t challenge my fragile version of my gender.)
For being not cis enough.
(Which basically means the same as above.)
For not being any „passing version of one of two, and only two gender“.

But | and:
It’s really nice and important, even healing, to be represented, to be seen, and to see yourself, your reality, your story, your reflection somewhere else outside yourself and your bathroom mirror.

„Too be seen.“ is a very powerful thing.
I guess, most of us want to be seen, mostly to our loved ones,
I guess.

And yet, many (if not most) of our loved ones are not „save“ for us.
You can try to blame this to society,
to „the system“,
to your surroundings.
But you ARE our surroundings.
Many of us do not make ourselves visible (to you),
because you are not save,
not save enough.

Yet.

Yet, many of us still have to become visible to our loved ones eventually.
Even, if they’re not save, not even save enough.

You can do better.
We deserve better.

That’s it.
